Some places promote this feeder as a means to keep house finches out of your finch food (some people only want goldfinches and not any other). I have to tell you--it doesn't keep house finches away. They watch the goldinches hang upside down and figure how to do it too. But it is fun to watch any bird eat upside down.

This isn't a cruel feeder making birds work harder than they need to, many birds hang upside down to feed in the wild. Watch goldfinches when your sunflower blooms go to seed--they hang any which way they can.
